DailyScoop: PayPal announces fee for inactive accounts

PayPal introduces fee for inactive user accounts, find out how to avoid this fee!

The new PayPal User Agreement will become effective as of December 16, 2020. Among the changes in the user agreement, there is a new section covering the inactive user accounts and associated fees.

If your PayPal account is inactive for at least 12 consecutive months, PayPal may charge an annual inactivity fee. Inactive means that you have not logged into your PayPal account or otherwise used your PayPal account to send, receive or withdraw money.

Section A3.13 lists the inactivity fee at 12.00 GBP (12 Euro). The inactivity fee will be the lesser of the fee listed or the remaining balance in your account.

In order to avoid this fee, you have several options:

  • close your PayPal account, even though you might need it in future again to purchase items on eBay, etc.
  • log into your PayPal account
  • send, receive or withdraw money from your account
  • make a small donation using your PayPal account (i.e. send money)

The inactivity fee applies to users registered in United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Gibraltar, Greece, Guernsey, Hungary (Corporate Customers only), Isle of Man, Jersey, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia.

You are not affected: It seems that you live in a country that is not affected by the new PayPal User Agreement. However you could still make a donation to be sure that there was a recent activity on your PayPal account.
